How characters and segments are counted
SMS length depends on the encoding. It is selected automatically based on the characters in the text.
Latin and basic characters
If the text contains only Latin letters, digits and standard punctuation, the compact GSM-7 encoding is used.

- 153 characters in each segment of a long message
Cyrillic, diacritics, emoji
A single Cyrillic character, Romanian diacritic (ș, ț, ă, î, â) or emoji is enough — and the whole message switches to Unicode (UCS-2).

- 67 characters in each segment of a long message

take up 2 characters each, even in GSM-7 encoding.

Watch out for emoji
